school's out!

simplypeaceable : September 5, 2010 2:26 pm : blythe

Got these eye chips in my first shipment from coolcats and thought they were much too dark. Decided to try them anyhow, and they turned out to be really pretty on goldie.

been wantingto make her a school uniform, but decided that since vision was lacking (and so is time and $) I’d  just buy this one, which was only $2 anyway. :) Comes with shoes (not the boots) but they couldn’t fit on licca feet though they can on blythe. Strange thing about licca bodies is that they are so much smaller than blythes’ in almost everyway except they have such much larger feet.

Littlest Pet Shop blythes

simplypeaceable : September 5, 2010 2:16 pm : blythe

LPS Blythe by MelancholyWings

Saw a few peeps getting these Littlest Pet Shop Blythes and thought they were cute enough for $13USD. Affordability drove me to look for them but no luck. I doubt they will be brought in. I’m not that keen on petite blythes but besides the price, I thought their accessories were nice too. There are five of them.

Pink magic strikes again

simplypeaceable : September 2, 2010 11:33 pm : blythe

Re did her makeup completely and afterwards thought it might be too OTT. I decided to give myself some days to decide how I felt about it but I knew I wouldn’t really be keen to change much, not after the gross amount of MSC I have sprayed on her so far, which would take much time and strength to sand off should I need/want to.

Eyes: purple shadow on the outsides, light pale pink shadow on the insides

Lips: Bright fuchsia

Cheeks: Hot pink, layered a few times.

Eyelashes: Bright fuchsia, though not so obvious as they are very fine

couldn't wait.

simplypeaceable : August 29, 2010 3:06 pm : blythe

Too impatient to get some pictures up but no amount of photoshopping will show the real colors. She’s now got pink and purpe eyeshadow, very hot pink cheeks and fushia lips. :) Bit OTT? Been wondering about that. Carved her lips deeper and really plumped them up. Also repainted her lower lashes. MSC’d her countless times so that she would have a super matt finish. The verdict is out on her. Let me ponder this for a few days.

On the addition of dolls front, I have seen very vicky and decided that she isn’t anything great in real life. thot her clothes would be more awe inspiring, but they were rather ho hum.

I am still hoping to get a dal. My fav two being clair and sakura. Will see how things go but I also would miss the customisation kick that I get from blythes. I also have a new vision in mind for a black haired blythe. Thinking of looking for a reasonable priced punkaholic or something.

still customising...

simplypeaceable : August 28, 2010 11:49 am : blythe, dolls

Got my eye chips so started the eye operations again….AD didn’t want me to remove anything cept the blue and pink and she wanted the purple/pink ones for pink magic that I wanted to put on goldie.

Someone said this looks like owl eyes. :) basically these are the enlarged pupil types. I wanted to put in flat customs too but dropped the top in and thought i’d have to take her head apart (again!) but thankfully I managed to shake it out. I wasn’t so lucky with the one that dropped in pink magic so I opened her head after much pulling and now that her head is apart I decided to leave it for a while to finish whatever else that needs to be done. AD wants me to remove her pink eyelashes I painted. Kinda in two minds about that.

Nice? Think not everyone likes this kinda treatment.

No, am not selling MSC. :) Jus helped a few people purchase. A few customisation tips I thot of today:

  1. Plan your customisation in advance, especially the sequence, so you don’t have to open her head too many times.
  2. Get a good full set of needle files (usually around five – semi circle, square, cone, triangle, flat rectangle) rather than jus one.If you intend to carve lips and eyes.
  3. Shake the mister super clear like mad until you feel pain in your arm.
  4. Spray thin layers and repeat as desired rather than aim for a full coverage in one spray.
  5. You can use newspaper to protect your flooring when spraying but don’t let the doll parts touch it. Use plain white paper underneath the doll parts.
  6. Spray your faceplate from different angles – prop it up in different positions with a ball of white paper or other. Pay attention to the ears and sides.
  7. Use pastels rather than human makeup for the best results and more vibrant colors.
  8. Don’t screw the T bar in too tight, or it might break.
  9. Don’t panic – go to the forums if in dire need (erm, actually you should go before you start). Quite a few “disasters” can be resolved, including white spots from MSC, non working eye mechanisms, overcarving, etc. to some degree. Or worse yet, get a new faceplate (last resort). The T  bar and screws can be purchased as well. Ebay also has some people selling the eye mechanism, though dunno how reliable.

What I did this time – sanded off previous makeup, carved eye holes, applied new eye shadow and blush, redid eyelids, and sprayed on msc again. Washed her hair and boiled it straight.

Finished rosie as well. I stuck to my plan of less is more with her. Didn’t change her eyechips or lips, although I redid her entire makeup as I found her face a bit dirty and had to sand off to clean it. Sanded her eyelids (which were already colored) and resprayed msc.

Her eyelids. Nothing scratched. Totally satisfied if I must say so myself. :) didn’t glue in her eyelashes…still looking for the perfect pair.

The two of them in their stock, cept rosie’s shoes.

work on goldie, originally an ice rune

simplypeaceable : August 21, 2010 11:37 am : blythe

Quite a lot of work done but as usual almost looks like nothing. :)

Firstly, about the hair – AD had been asking me numorous times to exchange the scalps of the two dolls to their originals. Rosie, a Love and More, had honey brown hair, and Goldie, an Ice Rune, was a blond. If you have noticed, the hairstyles of these two dolls are almost the same, cept that love and more’s is a bit longer and goes down to her knees.

Goldie started off looking like this:

after a change in eyechips, makeup and lashes, addition of lower lashes and painting of a light blue eyelid color, she looked like this:

After change of hair and makeup she looked like this:

Finished?

simplypeaceable : August 16, 2010 4:38 am : blythe, crochet, dolls

Not quite sure, but there is goldie in more updates to the dress – edgings on sleeves. also did a scarf but just don’t have the lighting and time to craft some good pics at the mo. Kinda icky pic with her looking quite flushed like she just ran a marathon.  Have listed this dress. Am just trying out sales of my blythe dresses and hope that someone will like them as much as I like making them.

doll carrier

simplypeaceable : August 16, 2010 4:27 am : blythe

I finally did my doll carrier. I had been putting it aside as I wanted to get it just right – the right design, the right trims, the right binding, cloth, etc. whilst on the other hand my dolls were suffering from all the rather rough rides in my bag. I decided to jus do a simple one, so ta-da! The cloth was a gift from a friend for my birthday and I’m so loving the Kokka designs. Just that I don’t think they would do for clothes, unless they are for kids/dolls.

Outfits

simplypeaceable : August 14, 2010 4:52 pm : blythe

Finally got the bonnet on tight – had to sew on a length of ribbon on each side. Apparently, as J informs me, the ribbons were amiss from the seller. The option was to sew them myself or send them back to the seller. Thot why not just do it myself rather than the add the cost and inconvenience of sending it back and waiting for it again with the risk it might not return. Only thing is that since the seams are already sewn I had to sew the ribbon on top and the ends aren’t hidden, i.e. well, I wasn’t prepared to rip out the seams to slip in the ribbon and sew them back – if it had, there would be no guarantees I’d have this picture up yet. :)

Finally cut the cloth (was so reluctant but really itching to do something with it) and decided on a long dress. I was thinking of sleeves but somehow didn’t get down to it and prefer sleeves on a less patterned cloth – this one is rather busy already. The Riding Hood dress isn’t quite all done in this picture, but couldn’t quite decide at the time whether to add the crochet edging which I had in mind even before I started it. I love trims on the dresses.

And Ta da, here is the dress with the crochet trim which took a longer time than I had anticipated. I haven’t put in the back button in this picture so it is a bit loose at the waist. Put in a little pocket as well and the reason it’s so far at the side is cos I didn’t want to cover any of the other print in front. I think I will be keeping this one as I think some things could be slightly changed, but I think I want to sell a similar design for $25, or $17 USD.

And yes, the girls are all barefoot as the shoes kept on dropping off and I didn’t want to risk losing a side. :) And yes, so it’s a cloud. ;p

Introducing Pink Magic after her custom!

simplypeaceable : August 8, 2010 1:43 am : blythe, crochet

Looks like I didn’t do anything to her doesn’t it? I always feel this way after a custom. :) I’ve given her new makeup (pink blush, bright pink lips and brown eye shadow), sand matted and super MSC’d her, carved her lips and painted her eyelids pink and some glitter, sleepy eyes, new pull cords and charms and new eyelashes. Plus I also enlarged and rounded her eyes and painted her lower lashes.

There are a few things left – still sourcing for pink eyelashes, might cut and curl her hair and am in the midst of acquiring new eyechips. :) May paint a clear set that I just got.

And I made a green dress for her. :P hahahah…not really what I had in mind but I didn’t have any fabric that really suited her.

r and r

simplypeaceable : July 31, 2010 9:53 am : blythe

Had a rather complete photoshoot as the “art director” (hereafter shortened to AD then) was in the mood for it despite the heat (!). After the change to a licca body Rosie’s head tilts almost always, but I’m actually not too bothered with that (for now) as she seems to be expressing something different from usual (like huh?). What I don’t really like is that the licca body seems quite small and the clothes that fit blythe are a tad too big on it. I’ve not thought of any creative ways yet to position the limbs, maybe the flickr group liccafied, will help.

Rosie’s blue eye color is the most striking, next to goldie’s paler blue, although both have their charms. I think rosie has a very pleasant face. I am quite happy with the way the party dress turned out and how the print of “alice” is placed in front of the bodice. The trimming jus goes so well. So tempted to do another but whatever do I do with two of the same design?

Yes, it’s a new friend – named Pink Magic! :) AD is not interestedin customising her, specifying she wants to keep Pink Magic the way she is in entirety. So, may not be doing anything to her for a while, unless it is to give her eyelids color, change her eyelashes and give her sleepy eyes, and afterwards matt her. Hmmm…that is not a little actually. ;p I also wanted to trim her hair but AD’s against it. ;p Rosie looks a bit overdressed for the park. :) but also becos her licca body is smaller she looks a bit overwhelmed. When her head was opened was thinking about whether to exchange the scalps back to their original owners.

The lady at the shop showed me some oh so lovely customs, one of which cost $1,600, done by a popular rather well known customiser. Totally lovely(I am repeating myself aren’t I?) and I don’t doubt the customisation process deserves some such pricing (though I’m sure the shop gets a cut). The lady also tells me that we would never be able to do such nice (intricate?) work as the customiser had an art background to begin with. Now, why she thinks I don’t I wouldn’t know, but I don’t really believe that’s that. I think it just boils down to determination and practice practice practice, which of course may be kinda difficult considering the price of these dolls, unless one has an endless supply of face plates. This is not saying that the work is not extremely well done, just that we “mere mortals” can try to attain it. Let’s not discount ourselves. For me though, haven’t I said before I look for creativity not perfection? (and perhaps oyou know what that entails)…hahahah

Oh, I am not really interested to keep Guava’s clothes so if anyone’s interested in them cheap please inform me.

new outfits

simplypeaceable : July 31, 2010 1:10 am : blythe

She looks camouflaged. :) The outfit (minus the boots) was a pressie from friends. So nice of them esp since the one who bought it didn’t know anything about blythes or their clothes and had to do a bit of research before getting it. I made the other Alice in Wonderland dress.

And, as I mentioned…goldie has a perpetual tilt, unless I position her just so, cos of her licca body. I discovered that particular licca (beauty model) wasn’t suitable for this transplant. She’s actually supposed to be special being the first (which was in 2008) to have the ability to tilt her head, but for a blythe head the mechanism doesn’t hold cos it’s just too heavy.
